In today’s digital landscape, ensuring the security of your accounting firm’s data is of utmost importance. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a powerful tool that adds an extra layer of protection to your VerifyIQ account, reducing the risk of unauthorized access and safeguarding sensitive client information. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through the simple steps to enable or disable 2FA for all users within your organization.

How 2FA Reduces Risk of Unauthorized Access

2FA is a security mechanism that requires users to provide two forms of identification to access their accounts. Typically, this involves a combination of something the user knows (like a password) and something the user possesses (like a smartphone). By implementing this feature in VerifyiQ, you significantly reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your account, even if a password is compromised.

Enabling 2FA in VerifyiQ

As an admin, you have the ability to enable or disable 2FA for all users within your company. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Log in to your VerifyIQ account and navigate to the main page (the Clients tab).
  2. Click on the gear icon located in the top right-hand corner to access your company’s settings.
  3. From the settings menu, select “Two-Factor Authentication.”
  4. A pop-up box will appear, presenting you with the option to enable or disable two-factor authentication.
  5. Choose your desired setting and click “Save Settings” to apply the changes.

Once enabled, all users will be required to set up 2FA on their individual accounts, providing an additional security checkpoint whenever they log in.

Disabling 2FA in VerifyiQ

In some cases, you may need to disable 2FA for your organization. To do so, follow the same steps outlined above, but instead of enabling 2FA, select the option to disable it. Keep in mind that disabling two-factor authentication may make your accounts more vulnerable to potential security breaches, so it’s recommended to keep it enabled whenever possible.

Best Practices for 2FA

To maximize the security benefits of 2FA, consider the following best practices:

  • Encourage all users to set up 2FA on their accounts promptly after it’s enabled.
  • Educate your team about the importance of keeping their authentication devices (such as smartphones) secure and not sharing them with others.
  • Regularly review and audit user access to ensure that only authorized individuals have access to sensitive data.
  • Consider using a reputable authenticator app or hardware security key for generating 2FA codes, as they provide an additional level of security compared to SMS-based codes.

By implementing 2FA and following these best practices, you can significantly reduce the risk of unauthorized access and enhance the security of your VerifyIQ account, protecting your clients’ confidential information.
